Makes me wonder now whether my grandfathers '68 Le Mans had this....
Related: I remember reading somewhere that one of the GM cars (again, could have been Pontiac) had a factory shifter similar to this, but you could lock out the ratcheting mechanism. This was marketed to married guys that were afraid that their wives could not figure out how to use a ratchet shifter, so the ratchet was locked out to prevent her from getting all confused and all she had to do was operate the automatic shifter (really - there was a key lock and everything).

LMAO that's easily the most sexist automotive thing I've ever seen. I haven't actually witnessed the countries where women aren't legally allowed to drive, so I'm going with the above.
